Toowoomba’s annual Carnival of Flowers has been delighting crowds since its inception in 1949. In 2002, State Library photographer Reina Irmer captured a series of 58 photographs from the events including the images of flowers beds in Queens Park and the detoriated floats in parade.

According to the Courier-Mail an estimated 55,000 people attend the street parade on 21 September that year. The parade featured 47 decorated floats, 14 community groups and 18 marching bands.
